#MenToo, but not against #MeToo
# MenToo, but not against # MeToo
My beloved Brothers and sisters,
Throughout history, human discrimination has existed for a long time and has had a significant impact on society. Discrimination has occurred based on gender, caste, religion, race, and socioeconomic status.
To eradicate all forms of discrimination, many people have spoken out against it, particularly philosophers who have worked to reform against these injustices. One of them was John Rawls, who emphasized the importance of justice and fairness in society. His theory of justice argues for equal rights and opportunities for all individuals.
Dear friends,
Discrimination has become a common issue in society today, and many people have raised their voices against it. One type of discrimination we need to address is gender-based discrimination. In response, reform movements have been established, including the #MeToo movement.
The phrase "#MenToo" represents a new ideology aimed at empowering men in society, but it is not against the women's empowerment movement that began with Tarana Burke, a Black American social activist. The goal of creating the #Me Too movement was to raise awareness of sexual harassment, particularly among marginalized and vulnerable women.
The #MeToo movement advocates for gender equality. If there is inequality, society cannot achieve true quality. In fact, the #MeToo movement is not only for women who have experienced sexual assault or other forms of discrimination but also for men who face various types of discrimination in society.
Men also face societal pressures, stereotypes, and injustice. Although there may not currently be a dedicated hashtag for "#Men Too," the ideology behind it should be present in our minds. We must recognize that #MeToo supports the voices of both women and men.
While men may be perceived as the main perpetrators of assault, they can also be victims of sexual assault or discrimination. For example, a recent report in The Times of India detailed the case of an eight-year-old boy who was kidnapped, sexually abused, and murdered in Pune on February 27, 2024.
Just as women can be sexually assaulted, men can also face various forms of harassment and discrimination. In the future, we may need to establish a #MenToo movement if men's experiences cannot be effectively addressed within the existing #MeToo framework.
The #MeToo movement has played a pivotal role in promoting the ideology of #MenToo and raising awareness of gender inequality.
Please take a moment to consider these important issues.
